天には精があり、それを八紀に定めて変わらず。対して地には形があり、それを五里（理）に分けて乱れず。陰陽は表裏のようにお互いが影響し合っている。よって、陰陽はよく万物の変化の大元となる。

Sky has essence, which is fixed and unchanged in the eight periods. On the other hand, earth has form, which is not divided into five principles. Yin and yang influence each other like the front and back of a coin. Therefore, yin and yang are often the source of change in all things.
